Nine Great Britain kit bags, containing clothing and equipment from a variety of sports, have gone missing at the Olympic Village in Rio. it’s unsure if the baggage are stolen or were lost in the transfer from the holding camp in Belo Horizonte. the British Olympic Association are trying to trace them down.
It leaves a number of swimmers without the right swimwear for Saturday’s action, which will see variety of Team GB athletes compete on day one in the pool.
The worry is that the kit has been purloined from athletes’ rooms although it’s not known if the things were lost within the transition from the holding camp in Belo Horizonte. further reports claim that some team members have prohibited cleaners from getting into their rooms.
A British Olympic Association statement read: “A small number of bags – 9 from a total of nearly 3,000 items of baggage – are currently unaccounted for following their transfer from Belo Horizonte to the Olympic Village in Rio.
The BOA said: “A tiny variety of baggage – 9 from a complete of nearly three,000 items of baggage – are presently unaccounted for. we are working laborious to find the bags as soon as possible. within the meantime all athletes still train as normal and are unaffected once it comes to training and competition wear.”
Athletes in the Olympic Village have continued to post footage of incomplete rooms and water leaks. In one case the protective covering on a floor had come unstuck, whereas another video showed an incomplete room with tools spread out across the flat and staff still busily in action. “The focus of athletes involved is very much on the start of the Games and their own performances.”
